Body
As America celebrates 250 years as a nation, we will be taking a walk back in time to examine what the past 250 years have looked like at Upper Newport Bay. Join OC Parks staff and volunteers for a guided history walk that will trace the people, events, and environmental transformations that have shaped the Bay. Along the way, participants will discover how the Bay has changed over periods of indigenous stewardship, ranching, agriculture, industry, conservation, and restoration. We will combine local history, ecology, and storytelling to reveal the rich and layered past of one of southern California’s most important coastal wetlands.
This hike is approximately 3 miles with about 150 feet of elevation gain. Please note the trails are not suitable for strollers.
Bring water, snacks and sun protection as needed. The program is designed for all ages and encourages curiosity, environmental awareness and appreciation for the outdoors.
The program and parking are free.
Walk-ups are welcome, but advance registration is recommended. Learn more and register here for Changing Tides: 250 Years at Upper Newport Bay.
Adverse weather may cancel the program.
