Train for a Day and Become a Volunteer for the Bay
9:00am to 3:00pm

Be a part of this dynamic estuary! Volunteer at Upper Newport Bay. Learn about the habitats and wildlife of the bay. Participate in habitat restoration and special events. Assist with canoe, kayak, walking, and school tours. Help us greet and educate visitors at the Interpretive Center and Marine Studies Center. There are many ways to get involved! The Upper Newport Bay is always looking for new volunteers!

We offer a one-day training throughout the year and a 10-week training generally in the fall.

The one-day training is held throughout the year and is an all day session from 9am to 3pm.

One-day training will provide you with:

  • A basic summary of the ecology of Upper Newport Bay
  • Prepare you to greet visitors at the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center and the Marine Studies Center.
  • The ability to participate in habitat restoration projects, special events, assist with Naturalist led tours and programs, and administrative projects.
    *The One-day training is required before you take the 10-week training.

    10-week training will provide you with knowledge of the following subjects related to the Upper Newport Bay:

  • Ecology
  • Modern History
  • Marine Life
  • Plants
  • Birds
  • Land Life
  • Geology
  • Native Americans

    Upon completion of the 10-week training session you will become a Newport Bay Naturalist, and along with this you will be able to:·

  • Lead canoe, kayak, walking and school tours
  • Plan and coordinate programs and events
  • Participate in outreach and fundraising programs
  • And Much More!

    There are many ways you can become a part of the dynamic Estuary!
