Halloween at the OC Zoo!

by Marcy Crede-Booth, Resource Specialist on 10/8/2009

Join OC Zoo for some Halloween fun on Saturday, October 31st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fun activities will include spooky children’s crafts, face painting, and for children ages 12 and under, trick-or-treating throughout the zoo and a scavenger hunt.

Come see us give the zoo animals treat-filled pumpkins throughout the day! Pumpkins will be filled with avocadoes, honey and peanut butter for the bears; fruit, vegetables and meat for the raccoons and mice for the mountain lion, bobcats and ocelot.

A raccoon is sitting behind a carved pumpkin that was filled with various fruits, vegetables and meats.
A raccoon at the OC Zoo takes a break from pulling out various fruits, vegetables and meats from his pumpkin treat.
Watch as the black bears roll around and crush their pumpkins. Enjoy the antics of the raccoons as they stick their hands and heads inside their carved pumpkins to pull out treats. Also, be sure not to miss the burros as they kick and stomp at their pumpkin treats.

Children are encouraged to come in costume and the first 100 children ages 12 and under in costume will receive a special gift! Please no devil sticks, swords or similar accessories for the safety of our animals.

All Halloween activities are free with zoo admission. For more information please call Marcy at (714) 973-6846 or visit the zoo website at www.ocparks.com/oczoo.

The zoo is located inside Irvine Regional Park in Orange and exhibits animals native to the southwestern United States, including black bears, mountain lions, eagles, coyotes, ocelot, mule deer, beaver and bobcats.

The OC Zoo is open everyday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Zoo admission is $2 per person, ages 2 and under free. Irvine Park entry fee is $3 per car weekdays and $5 per car on weekends.
