The following individuals received a Director’s Award for Excellence: Raquel Ariaz, Office Technician at Craig Regional Park; Lindsay Bale, Office Technician at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park; and Dina DuVall, Office Technician at Mason Regional Park. Ariaz, Bale and DuVall recently worked to learn a new records management system and entering hundreds of backlogged citations. All of this was done on top of their normally large workloads.

Director’s Awards for Customer Service were presented to: Customer Relations Manager Marie Moreno and to Park Ranger II Maureen Beckman and Senior Park Ranger Jim Simkins, both of Santiago Oaks Regional Park.

Moreno was recognized for her dedication to ensuring that all members of the public have an enjoyable experience at the parks. Specifically, Moreno helped turn a mother and child’s negative experience into a positive, which resulted to the mother offering her volunteer services for OC Parks.

Director’s Award recipient Marie Moreno is joined by Supervising Park Ranger Sam Edwards and OC Parks Director Mark Denny after the ceremony. All three pose for a photo while Moreno holds up her award.

Park Rangers Beckman and Simkins were commended for their innovative plan to build relationships with members of the public at Santiago Oaks Regional Park. Not only have they set themselves a goal to have a positive interaction with a member of the public each day, they also have begun to document lessons learned through conversations with the public to continue improving Santiago Oaks.

OC Parks recognizes employee excellence with quarterly ceremonies. Director’s Award recipients demonstrate OC Parks’ core values of: stewardship, integrity, quality, cooperation, community service, pride of ownership, teamwork and education.
