A "Peek at La Pata" hike led by the City of San Clemente and OC Public Works

In collaboration with OC Public Works, the City of San Clemente hosted a "Peek at La Pata" hike for interested residents on Saturday, January 23. The fun event attracted around 250 people and gave participants an up-close look at the La Pata Avenue Extension Project.

To view the hike, the City of San Clemente created a video capturing the event.

The City will be holding this Neighborhood Workshop to receive public input to help define project goals and objectives, performance measures, and design strategies to achieve project goals for Camino Del Rio. The project background, schedule, and purpose will be presented. Residents and all interested parties are invited to attend and provide input into the project.

La Pata Extension Project Update

News ImageThe La Pata Avenue Extension Project Team is proud to announce that refuse removal was completed on August 3, 2015! Approximately 800,000 cubic yards of refuse were excavated and relocated to another location within Prima Deshecha Landfill to facilitate the construction of this project. The project will improve regional mobility for commuters by providing a direct connection between the communities of San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.

La Pata Extension Project Update

News ImageConstruction of the La Pata Extension Project continues on the La Pata Gap Connector Phase. Clearing and grubbing has been completed and the contractor has completed 50% of refuse removal at the Prima Deshecha Landfill to make room for the new La Pata Avenue. Construction activities for the next six months will include earthwork, drainage improvements, refuse removal, utility relocations, and bridge construction.

Updated Trail Closure Map

News ImageThe trail closure map for the La Pata Extension Project has been updated. The Prima Deshecha Trail will be closed until Fall 2016 at the locations shown on the map. The Forster Ridgeline Trail will remain open to the public. We appreciate your patience and support during construction of the Project.

News ImageThe contractor of La Pata Extension Project has begun the construction of the La Pata Gap Connector Phase that will extend the existing La Pata Avenue just south of Vista Montana to Calle Saluda with four new travel lanes for approximately 2.27 miles. The phase is expected to be completed in Fall 2016. Below are the details of the project’s construction activities for the upcoming weeks:

During this meeting, OC Waste & Recycling staff discussed the many best management practices that were being implemented and considered to address any inconvenience you may experience from our landfill operations.
