Supervisor Janet Nguyen Receives Appointments and Continues Leadership and Service to the Community

(Santa Ana) At the January 25, 2011, Board of Supervisors meeting, First District Supervisor Janet Nguyen was appointed to several boards and commissions by her colleagues. These appointments will allow her to continue her leadership and commitment to making government accessible to the community.

In December of 2010, Supervisor Nguyen completed her leadership as Chair of the Board of Supervisors. She also served as Vice Chair of the Board of Supervisors in 2009.

Supervisor Nguyen was reappointed to the Orange County Children’s Partnership, the Orange County Fire Authority, the Orange County Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, the Orange County Sanitation District, the National Association of Counties and the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency. Supervisor Nguyen was also appointed to serve on the Orange County Council of Governments and she replaces Supervisor John Moorlach as the regular member for the CalOptima Board of Directors.

Supervisor Nguyen also continues her extensive service on the Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors. In 2011, Supervisor Nguyen will serve as Chair of the Legislative Committee and Vice Chair of the Transit Committee.

“It is an honor for me to serve my constituents and represent the Board of Supervisors and the First District on the various boards and commissions they have appointed me to,” said Supervisor Janet Nguyen. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve and I look forward to all we will accomplish this year.”

Supervisor Janet Nguyen served as Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2010, and represents the First District. She also serves as Chair of the Orange County Transportation Authority’s Legislative Committee and Vice Chair of the Transit Committee. She represents more than 600,000 people, covering the cities of Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Westminster and the unincorporated community of Midway City. Orange County ranks sixth in the nation as the most populous county and has the nation’s seventh highest annual budget.

Orange County Mourns Passing of Former Supervisor Marian Bergeson
County officials mourned the passing of former Supervisor Marian Bergeson, who was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1994 after a prestigious career in the state Legislature. Mrs. Bergeson left the Board in November 1996 after being appointed by then-Gov. Pete Wilson to serve as California's Secretary of Education.

Homeless shelter operator should prioritize innovation, value for taxpayers
The County of Orange has opened the bidding process for running the county’s first permanent, year-round homeless shelter. At the Orange County Board of Supervisors May 10th meeting, a unanimous board voted to initiate the next step in its efforts to address homelessness in the county.
