Coastal Clean Up 2009
Coastal Clean Up 2009
Date: Saturday Sept 25, 2010
9am-12noon at sites throughout Orange County

California Coastal Clean Up Day gives all Californians the opportunity to learn about coastal resources and help preserve them.

Volunteers will clean up trash, separate it for recycling and keep track of what they find--all while taking care of the marine environment.

Coastal Clean Up 2009
Coastal Clean Up 2009

Most importantly, volunteers will walk away better understanding the amount of marine debris that litters our environment, what its impacts are, where it comes from, and how they can help combat it.

We have also included non native plant removal and trash pick up at your local park as a Ca Coastal Clean Up Project. Come and help where HELP IS MOST NEEDED. The MORE trash that is picked up in our inland parks, the LESS trash is picked up at our coastal beaches.

  • Seal Beach: 1st and Ocean Avenue (City of Seal Beach and Save Our Beach)
    Volunteer Event: Beach Cleanup
Site Address: 15 1st Street, Seal Beach, CA 90740
Volunteer Sign-in and Meeting Location: Check website: http://www.saveourbeach.org
Directions & Parking: 405 FWY to Seal Beach Boulevard, make a left (S) onto Seal Beach Boulevard. Take Seal Beach Boulevard to Pacific Coast Hwy and make a right. Take Pacific Coast Highway to 1st Street and make a left and legally park on any of the residential streets nearby the parking lot at 1st & Ocean as parking lot will be full. Even though it’s marked one hour parking, you will not receive a ticket from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Walk toward the parking lot and sign in at the blue canopy on the right as you enter the parking lot.
Heres what I provide: Free parking, reusable garbage bags (made from recycled water bottles which is really cool as we're not creating more trash), a trash dumpster and a blue canopy with BEACH CLEANUP banner for locating me. I also provide hand sanitizer and baby wipes when we're done and there are restrooms close by. I always bring a First Aid kit, but rarely is it used.
Here's what I would ask from your group: Please bring a light jacket - could be 55 to 80 degrees depending upon weather. Please bring sunscreen, work/garden gloves, reusable water bottles and trash grabbers so we create less trash (all of these items can be purchased at most 99 cent stores).
Walk will be 2.25 miles from jetty to jetty and we will pick up trash along the walk. There will be a water station close to the pier to refill your reusable water bottles.
